LEC Aerial Bundle Cable (ABC)
Aerial Bundle Cable (ABC) based on BS 7870 Part 5
LEC manufacture a range of Aerial Bundled Cables (ABC) cables based upon compacted, circular, reverse-stranded aluminium conductors, insulated with Black UV resistant cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) rated at 0.6/1 (1.2) kV in accordance with British Standard BS 7870 Part 5 and ENA TS 43-13.
Aerial Bundled Cables, also known as Aerial Bundled Conductors, are available in two-, four- or five-core construction, with phase and neutral conductors of equal size and type, in conductor sizes from 25 mm2 up to and including 120 mm2. Phase identification is by means of raised ribs on the surface of the core, the number of ribs denoting the phase.
Aerial Bundled Conductors can also be supplied with optional, insulated cores for control or street lighting.
NOTE: The fifth core in the five-core bundle is designated as a protective conductor (protective core), i.e. a conductor used for some measure of protection against electric shock.
These cables are intended to be used in short-span installations to supply power from pole-mounted transformers or utility overhead lines.
The design and construction of these cables ensure easy of erection and stringing, with practically no maintenance in use.
The advantage of insulated aerial bundled cables over bare overhead lines safety by the removal of accidental contact, a reduction in the power outages caused by wind, trees and other lineside structures causing contact between phases, they also enable a more compact installation to be made.
